Sintra is a very picturesque town set in the hills about 30km from Lisbon. Its tremendous natural beauty has been the inspiration of several noted poets and writers, most notably Lord Byron, who described the town as "the most pleasing in Europe".

The town is well equipped to cater for the tourist. There are numerous corner cafes and restaurants, shops and supermarkets, places of historical interest, and of course views to die for. There is an excellent train service direct to Lisbon, and its not far from the beach either. To explore the area fully, hiring a car is recommended, and due to the hilltop nature of the town, and the cobbled streets, it isn't recommended for those with walking difficulties.

Here are some pictures of the area.
